Mathew A. Work | Founding Partner
Attorney Mathew A. Work is the founding partner of Carlson & Work and is widely regarded as one of Nevada’s top attorneys. Mathew A. Work was born in Henderson, NV where he was raised by his single mother and grandparents.
Mathew attended the University of Nevada, Reno where he earned a degree in economics, graduating summa cum laude. While in college Mathew was a collegiate athlete playing both lacrosse and football.
After college, Mathew moved to Washington D.C. where he continued his education as a graduate student and Capitol Hill Fellow at American University. Mathew worked on Capitol Hill as a Congressional Staffer. Mathew was able to work side by side with members of Congress. Mathew received a Masters in Economics from American University.
Upon leaving Washington D.C., Mathew attended Thomas Jefferson School of Law on a full academic scholarship. Mathew graduated magna cum laude. While at Thomas Jefferson he earned the Jefferson Award, Wilkins Award, Cali Award, Deans List and was selected as a teaching assistant as a result of his academic success.
Mathew passed the Nevada bar on his first attempt and accepted a position as an associate attorney where he successfully defended criminal cases at jury trial.
As a result of his work efforts, Mathew was then offered a position as a criminal prosecutor for the City of Reno. This experience was invaluable. Mathew spent years actively litigating criminal cases at trial. Mathew founded Work Law, now Carlson & Work in 2017.
Mathew’s ability as a trial attorney has consistently earned praise from the Northern Nevada legal community. In 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, he earned recognition as Top 40 under 40 nationally, voted by the National Trial Attorney LLC. Mathew was also named Top 10 Trial Attorney by the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association. In 2020 Mathew was awarded Nevada Attorney of the Year by Top 100 Registry Inc.
Mathew has also been appointed by Reno Mayor, Hillary Schieve as Mayor Schieve’s personal adviser for the Reno Charter Committee. Mathew has also served as General Counsel to Professional Sports Representation where he operated as legal counsel to NFL Head Coaches and General Managers.
In addition to practicing law, Mathew is a Law Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College.

Rebecca J. Carlson | Managing Partner
Attorney Rebecca Carlson is widely considered one of the state’s premier family law attorneys. Her early success has earned her recognition as one of Nevada’s youngest attorneys to have ever obtained partnership status. Since becoming the firm’s managing partner, her drive and abilities as a trial attorney have earned her a reputation second to none.
Unlike many attorneys, Attorney Carlson focuses her practice squarely upon Family Law. This allows her focus, research, and experience to rest in one area of the law.
Attorney Rebecca Carlson is a Nevada native-born in Las Vegas. She attended the University of Nevada, Reno and graduated cum laude with a dual degree in Communications and Political Science.
After college, Ms. Carlson continued her education and attended Chapman University, Dale E.Fowler School of Law on an academic scholarship. Throughout law school, Ms. Carlson focused her education on alternative dispute resolution and received a certificate of mediation.
Ms. Carlson has passed both the California and Nevada Bar Exams. She previously worked as an associate attorney for a multi-state law firm and has experience litigating at both the state and federal level.
Ms. Carlson has quickly earned a reputation throughout the legal community as a dedicated, aggressive and sophisticated litigator.

Lauren was born and raised in Northern California and moved to Reno in 2017 upon receiving her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Nevada. Lauren accepted a position at Carlson & Work in the Fall of 2017 as an unpaid intern.
Within a month, Lauren was promoted to Legal Assistant and within six months, she was the General Manager of the firm. Lauren has been vital to the growth of Carlson & Work. In her spare time she enjoys painting and mountain biking.
Lauren will begin Law School in the fall of 2019.

TAYLOR SHOWERS, PARALEGAL
Taylor was born and raised in Reno, Nevada. Taylor began her career as a receptionist for a local education firm, specializing in business law. In 2019, Taylor continued her education by completing the paralegal certificate course at University of Reno, Nevada. After completing the course she was promoted to a senior paralegal. In 2020, Taylor was offered a position as a Paralegal with Carlson & Work immediately accepted the position. Outside of work Taylor enjoy spending time with family & friends, working out and hikes with her dog Tato.
